JAECISM Not Racism came about when 10-year Club member and Junior Staff, JaeCis, witnessed racial injustice across the nation. She wanted to help make Cedar Rapids a peaceful place for all. JAECISM Not Racism, which stands for Justice, Accepting, Equality, Color, Inspirational, Successful, Movement, is a component of our Street SMART program. Through bi-weekly meetings, JAECISM teaches inclusion to youth and teens and gives them the opportunity to be a voice in the community by talking about issues and concerns they have related to violence and inequality. Participants are assigned weekly tasks that help them learn to be upstanders by speaking up and living the JAECISM Way. The movement empowers youth because it is completely driven by youth. While the program began at our South Unit, the JAECISM Way has spread to all of our sites and is a reminder to all Club members to stand up for the rights of others.
