Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the backbone of our Boys & Girls Clubs. Come share your talent with us and help our community's youth! Please note all potential volunteers are required by Boys & Girls Clubs of America to undergo a background check for the safety of our Club members.

Anyone interested in volunteering needs to follow the steps below to become a volunteer:
1. Fill out a volunteer interest form
2. Fill out an application
3. Complete Background Check

Once the proper paperwork and screening process is complete, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to get you started volunteering as quickly as possible!

BGCCR has five sites within the Cedar Rapids area where volunteer opportunities are available: South/First Congregational Church, Polk Elementary, Hoover Elementary, Taylor Elementary, and Olivet Church. We also have one Club in Iowa City located at South East Junior High.

Volunteer opportunities are available in our 5 Core Program Areas. These 5 Core Program Areas include:
  • Education, Career Development & Technology: this helps youth create aspirations for the future and provides opportunities for career exploration and educational enhancement.
  • Character & Leadership: this area helps to empower youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, and many other processes that affect daily life.
  • The Arts: these programs enable youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness.
  • Health & Life Skills: this area aids in the development of young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their well-being, set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults
  • Sports, Recreation & Fitness: these areas develop physical fitness, a positive use of leisure time, ways to cope with the stress in their lives, an appreciation for the environment, as well as social and interpersonal skills.
Other volunteer opportunities include helping out at events or joining our Board of Directors or a committee.
