John Tursi, Executive Director

Photo of John Tursi John became the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in 1998. As the Executive Director, John works with the Board of Directors to implement their vision for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids. He has seen the Club through many changes over the past 21 years. John received his Bachelor's degree from Loras College in Teaching. Prior to working at the Club, he taught at Saint Matthew's Middle School and up until a couple of years ago he helped coach Xavier football.  



Sarah Hoeger, Director of Grants & Marketing

Sarah began working at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in 2011 as the Marketing Director. As the Club's Marketing Director, Sarah oversees the day-to-day Marketing and general messaging of the Club. She is also the Club's grant writer. 
Sarah received her Bachelor's degree from Mount Mercy University in Marketing. Prior to working at the Club, Sarah worked at the U.S. Cellular Center & Paramount Theatre for 11 years starting as an intern while in college and working her way up to Marketing Manager. 


Megan Johnson, Director of Annual Giving

Megan began working at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in 2015 and is the Club's Director of Annual Giving. As the Director of Annual Giving, Megan manages the Club's three annual events as well as the Club's Great Futures Annual Campaign.
Megan received her Bachelor's degree from Mount Mercy University in Psychology. Prior to working at the Club, she worked at Collins Community Credit Union for eight years where she was a Branch Manager and Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust for one year.


Nick Cappussi, Chief Operating Officer

Photo of Nick CappussiNick started working at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in 2008 just after the Ellis building was flooded out. Nick is the Club's Director of Operations. He oversees day to day operations of the Club. Prior to working at the Club, Nick was a member of the Club's Board of Directors. Nick is retired from the Federal Government and Toyota Financial Services. 


Lori Ampey, Director of Programming & Outreach

Photo of Lori AmpeyLori joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in 2000. When the South Unit opened in 2004, Lori took on the responsibility as the Unit Director and in August, 2008 she was named Director of Programs. Before coming to the Club, Lori worked at the Jane Boyd Community House for six years and developed the Sports Department.


Callie Howard, Marion Unit Director

Photo of Callie HowardCallie Howard began as a part time Junior Staff member in June, 2013 and worked over the years has worked at all of our Westside Units. In March 2019 she was promoted to the position of Interim Unit Director at Olivet. Callie is now the Unit Director of our new site in Marion! Callie studied Criminal Justice at Kirkwood for two years after graduating high school and she hopes to eventually return to college to finish her degree.


James Nash, Hoover Unit Director

Photo of James NashJames has been working in the field of youth development for nearly 20 years. He began working part time at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in 2008. Prior to the Club, while he was in high school he worked for the City of Hiawatha as the supervisor of the City’s Summer Camp. After high school, he attended Kirkwood Community College and graduated with an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts. He is also on the Board of Directors and coaches the Hiawatha Kids League.


Nathan Zakes, Taylor Unit Director

Photo of Nathan ZakesNathan Zakes joined our Club family as the Taylor Unit Director in December of 2018. Nathan graduated in May of 2018 from the University of Iowa with a degree in Sports & Recreation. Since coming to work at the Club, Nathan says the thing that has impacted him most is seeing the diversity of the kids at Taylor and seeing how they interact with and test their boundaries as new staff come on board.
