Board Member Spotlight

We are thankful for our Board Members and their leadership of the
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor!

We are proud to highlight two Board Members who continually show their passion for helping youth and making a difference in this community! Five years ago, Board Member, Dan Perez and his co-worker Dan Hartnett, who is also now a Board Member proposed a new fundraiser to Club staff – Pedal for Progress. This bike raffle and ride was a way to reach new supporters and make new friends for the Club while also fitting hand-in-hand with the Club’s Healthy Lifestyles initiative.
Dan Perez explains that Pedal for Progress was created for two reasons. “First, to provide a committee-lead event that could raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Corridor, while requiring only a minimal amount of support from Club staff.” Each year Dan and Dan, along with the rest of the event committee members, are active by planning the route, collecting in kind donations for raffle prizes which are raffled at each stop and also take turns being out in the community selling raffle tickets at stops along the Cedar Valley Nature Trail in the months leading up to event day. Perez goes on to explain, “The second reason Pedal for Progress was created was to highlight an activity that is not only great exercise, but a great way for friends and family to exercise and have fun together.” Each year this event draws more people as riders from previous years invite their friends, family and riding clubs to come along. It was also important to create an event that is approachable for any skill level as well as making sure each stop is interactive and fun. Co-chair Dan Hartnett does just this with the thought and care he puts into laying out the stops  and acting as emcee of the event.

We invite everyone in the community to support our Pedal for Progress fundraiser as a way to learn more about the Club’s mission and how the Club is making a difference for youth across the community. Since biking appeals to such a huge and diverse subsection of our population, it really opens this event up to a large portion of Eastern Iowans. This is not only great for generating funds to support the Club, but also an effective way to introduce the Club and its mission to a new group of people.

Thank you, Dan and Dan not only for all that you do to ensure this event is successful, but for your passion for helping Corridor kids!
